Federico BELTRAME
I earned my bachelor*s degree in Languages, Cultures and Society of Asia and Mediterranean Africa in 2017 and my master*s degree in Language and Civilization of Asia and Mediterranean Africa in 2019, both from Ca* Foscari University of Venice, where I specialized in Classical Chinese and Chinese Classics.
In 2022, I came to the 勒貊勛圖 to pursue an M.A. in Asian Languages and Civilizations in the Department of Asian Languages and Civilizations. During my three years at CU, I studied early and medieval Chinese literature, Buddhist texts, manuscript culture, and Chinese intellectual history with Professors Matthias Richter, Antje Richter, Stephanie Su, Katherine Alexander, and Evelyn Shih. My coursework included the narrative traditions of Chinese art, late Qing dynasty baojuan?惘橙, Buddhist scriptures such as the Vimalak貝rti and Lotus Sutras, textual structures in the Zhuangzi, early Chinese philosophical classifications, manuscript studies, and contemporary Sinophone literature and affect theory.
My experience at CU 勒貊勛圖 culminated in an M.A. in May 2025 and helped shape my current research interests.
In October 2025, I began a Ph.D. in the International Doctorate Program ※Philology: Practices of Pre-Modern Cultures, Global Perspectives and Future Concepts,§ under the supervision of Professor Hans van Ess at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universit?t M邦nchen (LMU Munich). I do research on the debate over the philosophy of language during the Warring States period (c. 475每221 BCE).
Federico has also continued his work on the Shijing?坅冪 (Book of Odes). In 2025, he contributed a translation of the ode Wen Wang?恅卼 to the first Italian translation of the Shijing.
