This is the last Provost’s Post of the fall semester. A big thanks to all of you—colleagues and partners in our academic mission—who have worked so hard to serve our students and advance our research, scholarship and creative work. It's been a semester of astounding contradictions: the longest government shutdown in our nation’s history, punctuated by the the rare and beautiful appearance of the northern lights.

I’m concluding my Conversations with the Provost for this semester, which will soon have taken me to all of our colleges and schools. Thanks to all those who’ve turned out for these important conversations—I’ve learned a lot and you’ve all made me feel welcome.
