Chancellor DiStefano: Leadership update on implementation of 8 immediate actions for change
CU °Ç¸ç³Ô¹Ï Chancellor Phil DiStefano announced at his University ExecutiveÌýLeadership Team (UELT) meeting that he has asked Vice Chancellor forÌýDiversity, Equity and Community Engagement Bob Boswell to lead theÌýimplementation of theÌýeight immediate actions for change announced onÌýJune 18Ìýto improve anti-racism, diversity, inclusion and equity efforts onÌýcampus. To lead this implementation and multi-department effort, theÌýchancellor has given Boswell additional responsibility and the authority toÌýadvance CU °Ç¸ç³Ô¹Ï’s actions to achieve these goals.
“In order to be successful, we must make significant progress on these eightÌýactions for change,â€ DiStefano said. “Bob will promptly inform me, ProvostÌýMoore and Interim Chief Operating Officer O’Rourke of any barriers toÌýmeeting these goals. I will also take my own steps to implement cultureÌýchange, including setting expectations and holding my cabinet accountableÌýfor our progress toward these goals.â€
In addition to regular updates to the campus community, DiStefanoÌýrequested an update from Boswell by Aug. 21, 2020, on the actions,Ìýincluding recommendations on when and where the campus leadership teamÌýcan work to identify and prioritize the resources needed to accelerate andÌýadvance these efforts.
Boswell said he gladly accepts the new responsibilities and would act quicklyÌýon them.
“I share the chancellor’s commitment to immediate action and to theÌýaccountability for results,â€ Boswell said. “I will update the campus later todayÌýon next steps for the eight immediate actions and, moving ahead, willÌýprovide regular updates on our progress.â€
And, Boswell continued, the work ahead will be tangible and results-driven.
“Everything we do for the remainder of the summer, throughout theÌýacademic year and beyond that, will be driven by actions, not words, and byÌýa shared goal of accelerating the transformation of our campus culture,â€ÌýBoswell said.
