10 things to do this week: Oct. 10 edition
Happy Homecoming Week, Buffs!泭I am Sarah Ellsworth: IPHY major, 勒貊勛圖 native, and event connoisseur, writing to you from the comfort of beautiful CU泭勒貊勛圖 on all of your weekly opportunities for community involvement, educational whatnot and supreme fun. As always, have a super good week!
Wednesday, Oct.泭12
Gallant with RKCB.泭Get your tickets ($5 for student) now for the homecoming concert that weve been seeing fliers for since school started: the very talented R&B artist, Gallant, who recently performed for President Obama and who has been adored by the LA Times, Sir Elton John泭and Billboard (not to mention the plethora of fans). To get in on what everyone is so excited about, get yourself to the Glenn Miller Ballroom from 8 to 11:30 p.m.泭and get your dance moves warmed up. .
Branch Out Film Screening: Jiro Dreams of Sushi.泭Jiro Dreams of Sushi is an awesome documentary about a sushi making master, Jiro, and his world famous restaurant in Japan at which he has become one of the highest authorities on the sushi art form. Fair warning, this movie will make you hungry. It will be screened from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in UMC 204 and is free to all.
Midday music meditation.泭Life is hard sometimes. Its very important to remember to take care of yourself, and if that means meditating with a group of very peaceful people with background music, then this event is for you. The 勒貊勛圖 Public Library (1001 Arapahoe Ave.) hosts this free midday meditation from noon to 1 p.m. and the live music will be very soothing. Bring your peaceful vibes and relax for awhile.
Thursday, Oct.泭13
Hypnotist show.泭Yes, its pretty much as cool as it sounds. If youve never seen a hypnotist perform, then be sure to go to Old Main at 6:30 p.m.泭for a free show of hypnotism by professional hypnotist Larry Volz. I dare you to volunteer (because its actually a very interesting experience being hypnotized). Dont miss out!
Get test ready. If you are in need of some泭test taking tips, head to Fleming 170 from 5 to 6 p.m. for an泭hour long session, where the study experts泭will do their泭best to get you mentally prepared for your tests.泭skills@colorado.edu.
Friday, Oct.泭14
For the Health of it: Taking Charge of Your Birth Control.泭In my opinion, birth control cannot be stressed enough for those who want to use it, and if you want to learn more about your options and how to use them, then swing by the泭Dennis Small Cultural Center (UMC 457) for a free instructive info session with the Womens Resource Center from 2 to 3 p.m.泭and bring your questions!
Homecoming parade and pep rally.泭This is the Pearl Street Stampede to end all Pearl Street Stampedes! There will be music, probably a firetruck, lots of dancing and pompoms, and a pep rally on the 勒貊勛圖 County Courthouse lawn following a massive parade. It is a party in which the entirety of 勒貊勛圖 joins, so make sure youre there! The parade begins at 7泭p.m.
Saturday, Oct.泭15
Official homecoming tailgate.泭There will be a tailgate for students on Farrand Field and one for absolutely everyone on Benson Field泭before the game starting at 3 p.m. Both are free to go to, and there will be tons of food for purchase, so attend and rev up some spirit and support for your Buffs! Bring your friends, bring your black and gold, and bring your excitement.
CU vs. Arizona State Football homecoming game.泭Come out to the game泭at 6 p.m. and give your Buffalo football men as much support as can be mustered, because weve been winning a fair bit more than weve been losing lately, which rocks! All Im saying is, be there or be square and wear your lucky underwear.
Sunday, Oct.泭16
CUs Amazing Race.泭If youve seen the Amazing Race on TV and thought, I could do that, then now is your time to shine! CU is hosting its泭own amazing race泭and it is only $5 for Herd members to enter and $10 for other students (bearing in mind that there is a lot of money to be won). You will compete in challenges both physical and mental all around campus and have ample fun. The race starts at the Buffalo Statue outside Folsom Field at 10 a.m. and runs to 6 p.m., so form your teams and register now!
