Public safety app available to CU students, faculty and staff

All current CU °Ç¸ç³Ô¹Ï students, faculty and staff have access to a free public safety smartphone app (Lifeline Enterprise) featuring two ways for users to call for help in case of an emergency.

LifeLine Features:

  • The app hasÌýa button on the screen of the smartphone that allowsÌýyou to press and hold it whenÌýyou encounter a threatening situation. WhenÌýyou lift your thumb from the screen, a timer begins counting down to allow you to disarm the alert before it is sent. If you do not disarm the alert, you are contacted by the LifeLine Enterprise dispatch center who will validate the alert and call the police department with your location if needed.
  • A secondÌýfeature allows youÌýtoÌýset a specific amount of time for anÌýactivity, such as walking home from class or going on a run. If you do not deactivate the app before the specific amount of time has expired, anÌýalert will be triggered and LifeLine Enterprise will attempt to contact you and validate the alert.ÌýIf they are unable to make contact with you, theyÌýwill contact the local police department and provide your last known location.
  • LifeLine Enterprise allows youÌýto enter three or more “lifelinesâ€ in yourÌýprofile. These “lifelinesâ€ will be notified only when LifeLine Enterprise determines the alert to be real and that you areÌýare in danger. So when they callÌýthe local police department,Ìýan alert is sentÌýto your “lifelinesâ€ providing them with a notification of trouble, your last known location provided by your mobile phone, and contact information for your local police department for that “lifelineâ€ to contact. If you enter your code after you realize that you triggered an alert inadvertently, the “lifelinesâ€ alsoÌýwill get a second notification stating that you are safe.

Download the app:

  1. To download the app, use your phone and go to theÌý, enter your phone number, and they will send you a text that will link to your app store to download.
  2. Once you have the app, open it on your phone andÌýand use yourÌýIdentikey@colorado.eduÌýemail address and select °Ç¸ç³Ô¹Ï from the list.

The Lifeline company has two versions of their mobile safety app. One is for private citizens who have toÌýpay for it on their own, while the other is for universities and corporations to purchase for their community to use free. The latter is the one that CU °Ç¸ç³Ô¹Ï students, faculty, and staff should download. BeÌýsure to search the app store forÌýLifeline Enterprise.
