Your student government: Welcome Class of 2020
Welcome to the °Ç¸ç³Ô¹Ï, Class of 2020! You areÌýbeginning an amazing and life-changing journey. CUÌý°Ç¸ç³Ô¹Ï is the home to 20 astronauts, five Nobel Laureates, nine MacArthur fellowshipsÌýand two Carnegie Foundation’s Professor of the Year Awards. You are working alongside actors, politicians, engineers, writers, and astronauts all of whom are going to change the future and so can you!
CU has a large assortment of clubs, programsÌýand organizations for you to get involved in. We want you toÌýbe as successful as you can be, so utilize all of the resources that campus has to offer.
Your professors will say something along the lines of this to you as you start the school year:Ìý“Get involved and come to office hours whenever you have problems, questionsÌýor need resources.â€ Your RA’s and professors only have the success of their students on their mind so utilize them. Be as involved as you can be, because the students who get involved the most have not only the best Instagrams, but also higher overall GPAs. Be the best Buff you can be.
CU Student GovernmentÌýis an organization you should definitely consider when figuring out how to get involved with the CU °Ç¸ç³Ô¹Ï campus. AsÌýone of the largest student governments in the country, we allocate $23 million in student fees across cost centers, programsÌýand student groups every year. CUSGÌýis run for the students, by the students, and will impact you throughout your time in °Ç¸ç³Ô¹Ï so use your voice and get involved.
The cost centers that are under CUSGÌýinclude, but are not limited to the Recreation Center, the Environmental Center, the Volunteer Resource Center, the UMC, the Cultural Events Board, and KVCU (Radio 1190). However,ÌýCUSGÌýis not limited to the °Ç¸ç³Ô¹Ï campus. WeÌýwork at the state level working with legislation that directly affects the students of CU. WeÌýare working for the students and looking to improve the university as a whole.
If you are a first-year student who is looking to get involved you still have the chance to be part of Freshman Council. The council works closely with members of executive staff on programs like homecoming, electionsÌýand legislative affairs, and they get to craft and plan events of their own! Students who are chosen have the exclusive opportunity to shadow executives and legislators for the whole year and gain skill-building (as well as resume-building) experience. It is a great opportunity for you to meet other students and really get to know CU.
Make sure to follow CUSGÌýon Facebook, Twitter and Instagram (@CUSG°Ç¸ç³Ô¹Ï) for events, programsÌýand opportunities on campus!
