The Broader Impacts Network (BIN) is CU ǸԹ’s central campus source connecting the research and creative works community with the partners, tools, and resources needed to successfully develop and implement socially significantbroader impacts.
The National Science Foundation (NSF) prioritizes broader impact and intellectual merit in every proposal for funding. NSF defines broader impacts as “the potential to benefit society and contribute to the achievement of specific, desired societal outcomes.”
CU ǸԹ's BIN strives to enhance the quality of proposals through facilitating compelling and comprehensive broader impacts.

- Must focus on underrepresented minorities in STEM
- Has to be novel/unique
- Cannot involve existing partnerships
- Must hire professional evaluator to review BI
- BI expectations are similar across NSF directorates (they vary! – best to check with program officer)
