Piano lessons for youth and non-majors

While piano lessons with a faculty member are usually reserved for piano majors and require an audition, there are other options for piano study for non-piano majors at CU 勒貊勛圖.

CU 勒貊勛圖 Youth Piano Program

The CU 勒貊勛圖 Youth Piano Program trains students through weekly group and private lessons. Instructors are experienced teachers from the College of Music and the program is supervised by Professor of Piano Pedagogy + Piano Pedagogy Chair Alejandro Cremaschi. The lessons provide thorough instruction at the highest and most effective pedagogical standards while providing opportunities for fun, motivation and enjoyment of music. MORE

CU 勒貊勛圖 undergraduate students (for credit)

  • If you are a beginner, you can enroll in MUEL 1115an online, asynchronous class on any semester including summer.
  • If you have had about a year of lessons, you can enroll in MUEL 1125 in the spring semesters. This is an in-person class. Email Alejandro Cremaschi to receive permission to add this class if MUEL 1115 has not been taken.

Note: There is currently no other option for for-credit piano lessons for non-music majors.

Piano for adults (students or non-students)

Not-for-credit options:

  • If you are an absolute beginner, we will be offering a program of 9 lessons with an undergraduate intern in the fall of even years (e.g. 2026, 2028, etc). Spots are very limited.
  • If you have at least 2 or 3 years of previous lessons, we offer a program for intermediate students consisting of 9 lessons with an undergrad or grad intern every spring ($100). Spots are very limited.
  • Starting in the fall 2025 and continuing every semester, we launched the Adult Piano Program with piano instructors hired among our best graduate students. See below.

Adult Piano Program (not for credit)

This program offers paid lessons every semester, taught by experienced graduate instructors.泭

  • Lessons are for adults at any level: beginner, intermediate or advanced.泭
  • Lessons are tailored to each students interests. Instructors generally work with an adult method book for beginners, and with classical or other repertoire with intermediate and advanced students. The focus is on developing reading, expressiveness, control, coordination and technique at the instrument.
  • Adult lessons are either 45-minute or 1-hour long, once a week.
  • Semester tuition is comparable to other community music schools in 勒貊勛圖 and includes 14 lessons per semester. The semester coincides with CU 勒貊勛圖s academic semester.
  • All lessons take place on campus in the Imig Music Building (at-home lessons cannot be provided). Adult lessons are scheduled mostly before 3:30 p.m. or after 7:30 p.m. or on weekends.
  • Students must have access to a piano to practice. There are two open practice rooms in Imig Music Building.
  • Optional end-of-semester recital with all adult students.
