Interdisciplinary Consultation Hours

We host free consultation hours every week at noon on Tuesdays during the fall and spring semesters to help you with your data-intensive research needs. Bring your questions and speak to our experts on methods and tools for research data management, digital humanities and qualitative data, geospatial data, or any aspect of the data life cycle. Consultations are open to all – from undergrad to faculty and beyond.

Lunch and Learn: Connecting Learning Objectives and Assessment Design in Community-Engaged Teaching and Learning

Tuesday, September 15; Noon-1:30 p.m.
Part of PACES' Lunch and Learn Series

How can assessment meaningfully capture what students learn through community-engaged experiences? This session explores strategies for aligning student learning objectives with assessment design in community-engaged teaching and learning courses. Participants will examine ways to map both disciplinary knowledge and professional skills, leverage reflective practice as evidence of learning, and use assessment approaches that connect theory, practice and community engagement.

BioBlitz! iNaturalist Workshop

Tuesday, September 22, 2:00-4:00 p.m.

From 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., learn how to record data about nature sightings on the CU �Ǹ�Թ� campus using the open data biodiversity platform, iNaturalist.

This workshop will be led by Scott Taylor, professor, Department of Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and director of the Mountain Research Station. Registration is required.

After the training, from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., join the BioBlitz! Participants will meet outside of the Benson Earth Sciences building on the south side by the globes and work together to identify species around the building to add to the platform, guided by Taylor and Joanne Marras Tate, NEST curator and new faculty engagement and support program manager at the SPIKE Center for Sustainability Education.

Registration is not required for the outdoor portion and any one is welcome to join.

Coding and Cookies

The Coding and Cookies workshop series is a supportive and welcoming introduction to the fundamentals of programming in R and Python, and version control using GitHub, to help make your research more efficient, reproducible, and scalable.

Offered at the start of both the Fall and Spring semesters, Coding and Cookies is a collaborative effort between CSU Libraries and the Stat Lab. These virtual interactive sessions combine guided instruction and hands-on activities, with support available every step of the way.

Fall 2026 CURC Trainings

Research Computing welcomes you to participate in our Fall 2026 Training Program! Through a variety of training formats, delivered virtually or in a hybrid modality, you’ll gain practical experience in topics such as job scheduling, parallelization, containerization, Git/GitHub, and using cutting-edge tools like AlphaFold3 and large language models.

This semester, we are excited to announce three brand-new workshops:

Alpine New User Seminar (A Primer) from CURC

Wednesday, August 26, 10-11am

New to CU Research Computing (CURC), but don't know where to start? This Primer* training is designed to give you an overview of CURC’s resources, procedures, and best practices. During this session, you will learn about High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems, the resources available on CURC’s HPC system Alpine, data storage options, and how to access CURC resources. By the end of the session, you will have a solid foundation for exploring and learning to use Alpine through CURC’s additional training and documentation.

* What is a Primer? A Primer is a session that provides an introduction to concepts, systems, and tools. You can expect to leave a Primer with an introductory-level understanding of the topic.

CU Research Computing: Ask Us Anything!

CU Research Computing is excited to announce an expansion of our consultation hours for the Fall 2026 semester! On the first Friday of each month, we will host “CU Research Computing: Ask Us Anything!”, a 3-hour virtual drop-in office hours session.

CRDDS Research Data Foundations Camp

Tuesday, August 18th: 9am-5pm

Join the Center for Research Data & Digital Scholarship on Tuesday, August 18th and Wednesday, August 19th for our Research Data Foundations Camp designed specifically with graduate students in mind (although all are welcome)! This is an in-person event. Space is limited.

As data-based research becomes a common practice, skills in data management, data analysis, and computational thinking are increasingly important for applied researchers. The Camp will provide a gentle introduction to data and programming-related research tools that will increase users' access to cutting-edge methods as they pursue their programs and research. Topics covered include reproducible research and data management; tools for collaboration and sharing (using GitHub and GitHub Pages); data analysis and visualization fundamentals in Python and R; and an overview of interdisciplinary data practices and ethics. No previous experience in coding or programming is required! Those who complete the optional assignments will be eligible to receive CU �Ǹ�Թ�’s Research Data Foundations micro-credential.

HPC Micro-credential from CURC

Monday, August 10, 9am to 12:30pm

This micro-credentialed course is for those who will be tackling computing-, memory-, or storage-intensive research problems that exceed the capacity of a laptop or desktop computer. It consists of a three day workshop and is intended to give attendees a hands-on introduction to high-performance computing (“supercomputing”) using CU �Ǹ�Թ�’s Research Computing resources.

Upon successfully completing the associated assignments, learners are issued a digital badge, allowing achievements to be displayed and shared. Just as diplomas serve to recognize degrees, digital badges are artifacts that offer recognition and storytelling about micro-credentials.

Important: This course is open to members of the Rocky Mountain Advanced Computing Consortium (RMACC). Participants from CU �Ǹ�Թ� are required to attend in person each day; RMACC members may attend in person or virtually. A Zoom link will be emailed upon registration.
