Information Science Department Chair Bryan SemaanÌýis an associate professor at theÌý°Ç¸ç³Ô¹Ï. He examines the role of InformationÌýand Communication Technologies in enabling resilience amongst people immersed in challenging contexts (e.g. people’s experiences with racism and stereotyping, LGBTQ+ people “coming outâ€�, and refugees integrating into new sociocultural contexts). His work draws on critical perspectives (e.g. decolonial, critical race, and feminist)Ìýto understand, critique, and createÌýethical, moral, just and equitableÌýsociotechnical systems.

Before coming to CU °Ç¸ç³Ô¹Ï, Bryan was an associate professor in the School of Information Studies at Syracuse University. He was also aÌýpostdoctoral scholarÌýin theÌýDepartment of Information and Computer SciencesÌýat theÌýUniversity of Hawaii at Manoa. He obtained hisÌýPh.D. from theÌýDonald Bren School of Information and Computer ScienceÌýat theÌýUniversity of California, Irvine, where he also received his B.S. and M.S. in Information and Computer Science.
