Edward G. Seidensticker Japan Summer Research Grant
CAS has insufficient funds to make awards for summer 2026 and anticipate having a deadline in February 2027 for summer 2027 awards.
The Center for Asian Studies invites CU °Ç¸ç³Ô¹Ï graduate students working on Japan to apply for the Edward G. Seidensticker Japan Summer Research Grant. The Center will offer several grants of up to a maximum of $1200 each to help fund graduate-level research on Japan, Japanese language study in a formal program, or a combination of research and language study during Summer 2025.
All graduate students in good standing as of Spring 2025Â are invited to apply. Applicants will be required to submit:
- A two-page statement of purpose showing how grant funding would support their Japan-related research project or language study
- ​An application form (²¹±¹²¹¾±±ô²¹²ú±ô±ðÌý³ó±ð°ù±ð)
- ​C.³Õ.
- Unofficial transcripts for all higher education institutions attended
- An itemized budget detailing anticipated expenses for the research project/language program
- A letter of recommendation
Funding is limited, so applicants are encouraged to submit reasonable and realistic budgets.

Award recipients will be required to submit a report in Fall 2025Â detailing the nature of their research/linguistic progress and the impact of the Seidensticker funding for CAS marketing and program development use. Â
