Abstract:Ìý
I’ll provide an overview of some of the recent work my lab has been doing in the domain of computational cognitive neuroscience.Ìý We do large-scale numerical simulations of multiple brain areas, integrating biological properties and reproducing complex cognitive functions, to understand how the brain “secretesâ€ mind.Ìý Recent work shows how bidirectional connectivity can support robust visual object recognition, and how complex interactions between dopamine, basal ganglia, and prefrontal cortex support “executive functionâ€, e.g., our ability to stay on task and solve complex problems.Ìý Contributions from dynamical systems analysis as well as numerical techniques will be highlighted -- lots of interesting problems here for applied math folks to chew on!
